Horn parts in some of these tunes are plenty demanding — way over my head.  My only path to a creditable performance is daily practice of the hard parts, chipping away little by little rather than trying to rely on energy-sapping marathon practice sessions.  If I mess up in performance, I don’t want the reason to be lack of preparation.  In the nearly 2 weeks I’ve had to start learning to play the music, I have made some progress — enough to cause encouragement that if I keep it up I will come through OK at performance time.
